The girls and boys Indoor Track teams took home multiple medals from the Tri-State Track and Field Coach’s Association Indoor Championship meet last Saturday at Edinboro University.    On the boy’s side, Achan Green took home 3rd overall in the 60 meter hurdles. His time of 8.79 was good enough to rank him at 37th in the entire state. Paris Bey also tallied a top 10 finish in the same event.   On the girl’s side, Sophomore Mackenzie McIntrye opened the meet and took home 12th in the women’s 60 meter dash. She followed this up by running the first leg in the girl’s 4x200 alongside teammates Larissa Lockridge, Maliah Powell, and Mylah Faulk. The quartet clocked a 1:48.71, ranking them 35th in the state.    In the 400 meter dash, senior Mylah Faulk took home 6th, missing her indoor personal best by less than .1 second. In the final event on the track, Jaydn Golden, Maliah Powell, Larissa Lockridge, and Mylah Faulk ran the 4x400 to a 3rd place finish behind North Allegheny and Hempfield (7).    This concludes the indoor season for the Penn Hills squad. The team will take a short break before they begin their outdoor campaign. Outdoor practices start March 6th.

The boys and girls indoor track team competed in the last regular season meet of the year this past Saturday. Freshmen lead the way on the girl’s side with Janaya Coleman and Amanda Heide competing in the 200, 400, and 800 meter runs. Janaya ran an impressive 1:03.74 in the 400, good enough for 9th place overall. The girl’s team also ran in the 4x200 and 4x400. The girls took 3rd in the 4x200 and 2nd in the 4x400.    Paris Bey, Tindah Mofor, and Owen Templer represented the boys side in Edinboro. Paris ran the 60 hurdles and 200, placing 9th in the hurdles and 13th in the 200. Owen ran a new personal best in the 800, crossing the line in 2:25.80.    The following athletes have qualified for the Tri-State Coaches Association Indoor Championships held this Saturday, February 18th, at Edinboro University:   Achan Green, 60 meter hurdles Paris Bey, 60 meter hurdles Mackenzie McIntyre, 60 meter dash Mylah Faulk, 400 meter dash Girl’s 4x200 Girl’s 4x400
Youngstown State High School Indoor Track Meet

The Penn Hills girls and boys indoor track teams traveled out of state to take part in the Youngstown State High School Indoor track meet on Feb 4th.    The girls started their day with sophomore sprinter Mackenzie Makintyre winning her heat of the 60 meter dash in 8.38, enough to qualify her for the finals in a deep sprinter’s field.    She followed up this performance with a great showing in the 200 meter dash. Mackenzie clocked a 27.37 alongside teammate Nia Jones who tallied a 29.48.    Senior Mylah Faulk dominated her heat in the open 400. Mylah covered the quarter-mile distance in 1:01.32, good enough for 2nd place out of 66 competitors.    Only one boy made the trip for the team. Tindah Mofor raced in the open 400 meter dash. Tindah achieved a top 35 finish against tough competition that saw one athlete break the 50 second barrier.   In the 4x200(Maliah Powell, Mylah, Nia, Mackenzie) and 4x400 (Maliah, Larissa Lockridge, Janaya Coleman, Mylah) relays, Penn Hills placed 3rd and 1st respectively. The 4x400 team led the race from the gun, finishing 12 seconds ahead of Norwin’s girls.    Next week the team is back up to Edinboro for the last regular season meet of the season.

The girls and boys indoor track and field teams took part in the 3rd Tri-State meet of the season.    The meet began with the sprinters and hurdlers taking the track. Mackenzie McIntyre and Cameron Thomas both qualified for the finals in the 60 meter dash. Cam was not able to compete in the finals due to a lingering hamstring issue. Mackenzie ran herself to a 2nd place finish, running a personal best at 8.10 seconds. In the 60 hurdles, Paris Bey qualified for the finals where he broke 10 seconds for the first time in his career, taking home 8th place.    Larissa Lockridge and Nia Jones both competed in the 200 meter dash. Larissa secured a 12th place finish with a time of 28.46 seconds. Nia crossed in 29.16 seconds. Paris Bey also took part in the 200, clocking a time of 24.42 seconds. Senior Mylah Faulk took home 2nd place in the 400 meters with Jadyn Golden securing 8th place.    The distance runners made their first appearance this season. Junior Sawyer Kinney and Freshman Avin Keller both ran in the 1600. Sawyer opened his season with a 5:16.29 while Avin set a 30 seconds personal record. Amanda Heide made her third appearance in the 800 this week. She continued to rack up valuable race experience against a strong lady’s field.    In the field events, Damiana Hopkins threw for 25 feet-10 inches in the shot put, good for 20th on the day.    In the relays, the boys (Avin, Paris, Tindah Mofor, and Sawyer) ran a DMR for the first time this season, crossing the line in 13:45.68, just behind Chartiers Valley. The girl’s 4x200 took home 1st place on the day in 1:50.80. Mylah anchored the girl’s 4x400 relay to a close 2nd place finish against North Allegheny, clocking a 59 second split over the quarter-mile distance.    The team will travel to Youngstown University next Saturday for their 4th meet of the season.

The girls and boys indoor track teams competed at Edinboro University on Saturday, January 21st for the second Tri-State meet of the season.    Short sprinters and hurdlers were the first to take the track. Sophomore Mackenzie McIntyre qualified for the finals in the 60 dash where she took home 3rd place in a time of 8.13 seconds. In the hurdles, Achan Green advanced to the finals and took home 5th place while teammate Paris Bey took home 15th.    In the long sprint events, senior Mylah Faulk was 1st in the girl’s 400, recording a time of 1:01.85. Junior Maliah Powell followed closely behind in 1:03.38, good for 4th on the day. Paris Bey returned to the track in the boy’s 200, covering the distance in 24.73 seconds while teammates David Hogan and Tindah Mofor competed in the 400.    Penn Hills was represented in the distance and field events by Amanda Heide and Damiana Hopkins. Amanda finished the 800 just a few seconds off of her PR from the previous week. Damiana broke into the top 20 in the shot put with a throw of 26 feet-5 inches.    The day concluded with the relay events. The girl’s 4x200 and 4x400 took a pair of second place finishes home with them, both times being edged out by the Lady Spartans of Hempfield. The 4x200 crossed the finish line in 1:52.14 and the 4x400 recorded a time of 4:15.92.    The team will be back in Edinboro next week for the 3rd Tri-State meet of the season.

The Penn Hills girls and boys indoor track team competed in their first meet of the season at a snowy Edinboro University last Friday the 13th. With the team’s transportation being canceled at the last minute, the day was beginning to look like it would live up to its superstitious lore. Despite the logistical setback, the Penn Hills squad turned in solid individual and team performances inside Edinboro’s freezing facility.    Sophomore Mackenzie McIntyre started the meet off strong by winning the first event. Mack bested 54 other girls to win the 60 meter dash. Her time of 8.16 places her 32nd in the state.    Freshmen Janaya Coleman and Amanda Heide each made their track debut on Friday. Janaya, along with teammates Mackenzie, Nia Jones, and Jaydn Golden ushered the 4x200 relay to a 4th place finish. Amanda ran herself to a personal best in the 1st heat of the girl’s 800.    Mylah Faulk and the lady’s 4x400 were on a mission to secure their first win of the season. Mylah, along with teammates Larissa Lockridge, Maliah Powell, and Jaydn Golden, won the relay with a 4:20.22. Mylah and Maliah also competed in the open 400. Mylah took 5th and Maliah placed 8th in that event.    The lone field athlete this week was Damiana Hopkins who threw for 27 ft. ¾ in., placing 19th out of 41 throwers.    Cameron Thomas and Achan Green lead the way for the boys side in the sprints and hurdles. Cam placed 3rd in the 60 meter dash running an impressive 7.27 in the early season competition. Achan battled it out in the 60 meter hurdles, advancing to the finals where he placed 6th.    Other boys competing for Penn Hills were senior David Hogan and juniors Tindah Mofor and Paris Bey. All three gentlemen, along with Achan, ran the boys 4x400 relay to a 6th place finish.    The team will travel back to Edinboro this Saturday for the second Tri-State meet of the season.
