The Penn Hills girls and boys indoor track teams traveled out of state to take part in the Youngstown State High School Indoor track meet on Feb 4th.
The girls started their day with sophomore sprinter Mackenzie Makintyre winning her heat of the 60 meter dash in 8.38, enough to qualify her for the finals in a deep sprinter’s field.
She followed up this performance with a great showing in the 200 meter dash. Mackenzie clocked a 27.37 alongside teammate Nia Jones who tallied a 29.48.
Senior Mylah Faulk dominated her heat in the open 400. Mylah covered the quarter-mile distance in 1:01.32, good enough for 2nd place out of 66 competitors.
Only one boy made the trip for the team. Tindah Mofor raced in the open 400 meter dash. Tindah achieved a top 35 finish against tough competition that saw one athlete break the 50 second barrier.
In the 4x200(Maliah Powell, Mylah, Nia, Mackenzie) and 4x400 (Maliah, Larissa Lockridge, Janaya Coleman, Mylah) relays, Penn Hills placed 3rd and 1st respectively. The 4x400 team led the race from the gun, finishing 12 seconds ahead of Norwin’s girls.
Next week the team is back up to Edinboro for the last regular season meet of the season.
