Tri-State Indoor Track and Field Meet #1

1 year ago @ 8:41PM | Ryan Donnelly
Game Date
Jan 13, 2023

The Penn Hills girls and boys indoor track team competed in their first meet of the season at a snowy Edinboro University last Friday the 13th. With the team’s transportation being canceled at the last minute, the day was beginning to look like it would live up to its superstitious lore. Despite the logistical setback, the Penn Hills squad turned in solid individual and team performances inside Edinboro’s freezing facility.

Sophomore Mackenzie McIntyre started the meet off strong by winning the first event. Mack bested 54 other girls to win the 60 meter dash. Her time of 8.16 places her 32nd in the state.

Freshmen Janaya Coleman and Amanda Heide each made their track debut on Friday. Janaya, along with teammates Mackenzie, Nia Jones, and Jaydn Golden ushered the 4x200 relay to a 4th place finish. Amanda ran herself to a personal best in the 1st heat of the girl’s 800.

Mylah Faulk and the lady’s 4x400 were on a mission to secure their first win of the season. Mylah, along with teammates Larissa Lockridge, Maliah Powell, and Jaydn Golden, won the relay with a 4:20.22. Mylah and Maliah also competed in the open 400. Mylah took 5th and Maliah placed 8th in that event.

The lone field athlete this week was Damiana Hopkins who threw for 27 ft. ¾ in., placing 19th out of 41 throwers.

Cameron Thomas and Achan Green lead the way for the boys side in the sprints and hurdles. Cam placed 3rd in the 60 meter dash running an impressive 7.27 in the early season competition. Achan battled it out in the 60 meter hurdles, advancing to the finals where he placed 6th.

Other boys competing for Penn Hills were senior David Hogan and juniors Tindah Mofor and Paris Bey. All three gentlemen, along with Achan, ran the boys 4x400 relay to a 6th place finish.

The team will travel back to Edinboro this Saturday for the second Tri-State meet of the season.
